La dottoressa Sandra Ristori ha conseguito la laurea in chimica il 16 giugno 1987, con una tesi sperimentale dal titolo “Studio mediante spettroscopia ESR dello stato dell'acqua adsorbita su membrane di Nafion”, avendo come relatore di tesi il prof. Giacomo Martini e riportando la votazione 110 e lode/110.
Dopo la tesi ha continuato lo studio di materiali polimerici e sistemi colloidali, con una borsa di studio fornitale dall'Istituto Donegani-Accademia dei Lincei (1-2-1988/31-1-1989).
- Dal 1-11-1989 al 31-10-1992 ha svolto, presso il Dipartimento di Chimica dell'Università di Firenze un Dottorato di Ricerca in Scienze Chimiche dal titolo “Caratterizzazione chimico-fisica di materiali fluorurati” (Curriculum Chimica Fisica delle Interfasi, tutore del Dottorato prof. Giacomo Martini). La dissertazione della tesi di Dottorato si è svolta a Roma il 23-07-1993.
- Dal 5-3-1993 al 4-3-1994 ha usufruito di una seconda borsa di studio conferitale dall’Accademia dei Lincei per svolgere presso il Dipartimento di Chimica di Firenze una ricerca sul tema “Studio di proprietà interfasali di polimeri perfluorurati funzionalizzati”
- Dal 1-9-1990 al 30-11-1994 ha effettuato vari soggiorni di studio presso il Centro di Studi Nucleari di Grenoble (C.E.N.G.), come membro del Gruppo di Chimica Fisica Molecolare, dove ha avuto modo di applicare tecniche di Risonanza Magnetica Nucleare (NMR) e di Scattering a Bassi Angoli di Raggi X (SAXS) e di Neutroni (SANS), allo studio di sistemi polimerici e cristalli liquidi. Tali soggiorni sono stati in parte finanziati dalla Commissione Ricerca e Sviluppo della Comunità Europea, che.dal 1 settembre 1991, le ha conferito una borsa di studio della durata di un anno da espletarsi presso il C.E.N.G..
- Dal 1-4-1994 le è stata assegnata dall'Università degli Studi di Firenze una borsa di studio di perfezionamento post-dottorato di durata biennale, per svolgere una ricerca dal titolo “Studio mediante tecniche spettroscopiche di Risonanza Magnetica e di Scattering di sistemi dispersi ordinati e disordinati”. Nell'ambito di tale borsa di studio ha svolto un soggiorno di studi (1 dicembre 1994 - 31 marzo 1995) presso il gruppo di “Dynamique des Phases Condensées” (Université Montpellier II, Francia), per studi di caratterizzazione strutturale su sistemi dispersi di tensioattivi misti fluorurati/. Un ulteriore soggiorno di studi in questo stesso laboratorio è stato effettuato nel periodo 1 aprile - 30 giugno 1996.
- Dal 1-7-1996 al 31-5-1999 ha svolto attività di ricerca presso il Dipartimento di Chimica dell’Università di Firenze, nell’ambito di un contratto stipulato con l’industria Ausimont S.p.A (Bollate, Milano) per la caratterizzazione chimico-fisica di polimeri e tensioattivi a struttura mista fluorocarburica/idrocarburica.
Il 28 gennaio 1997 ha conseguito, presso l’Università degli Studi di Firenze, l’Abilitazione all’ Esercizio della Professione di Chimico, avendo superato le prove dell’esame relativo con votazione 76/100.
Dal 23 giugno 1999 ha preso servizio come ricercatore a tempo indeterminato presso il Dipartimento di Chimica dell’Università di Firenze, avendo vinto il concorso pubblico per il settore scientifico-disciplinare CHIM02 (Chimica Fisica), bandito dalla Facoltà di Scienze Matematiche Fisiche e Naturali dell’ Università di Firenze, a seguito del decreto rettorale n. 568 del 26 agosto 1998.
Ha ottenuto l’abilitazione scientifica nazionale a professore di II fascia per il Settore scientifico disciplinare 03/A2 (Modelli e Metodologie per le Scienze chimiche) nella 1° tornata concorsuale (novembre 2012)
Dal 1 gennaio 2014al 31 luglio 2016 è stata membro (e membro della Giunta) del Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze.
Dal 1 agosto 2016 afferisce al Dipartimento di Chimica “Ugo Schiff” dell’Università degli Studi di Firenze.

Soggiorni di più breve durata (2-4 settimane) sono stati effettuati nel 2012 presso il gruppo Nanomedicina della facoltà di Farmacia dell’Università di Tromso e, ripetutamente dal 2012 al 2017, presso il laboratorio Physico-chimie des Electrolytes et Nanosystèmes Interfaciaux (PHENIX) dell’Università Pierre et Marie Curie a Parigi.
Inoltre sono in corso collaborazioni con ricercatori che lavorano presso Large Scale Facilities europee di grande rilievo come l’European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF, Grenoble), l’Istitut Laue-Langevin (ILL, Grenoble) e il Laboratoire Leon Brillouin (LLB, Saclay).
Il contributo di queste collaborazioni internazionali ha un ruolo importante nell’attività di ricerca della dott.ssa Ristori e le ha permesso di svolgere numerosi progetti in comune, come testimoniato dalle pubblicazioni e dallo scambio di studenti. In particolare, la dott. Ristori è stata relatore di due tesi magistrali della Faculty of Health Sciences and Pharmacy dell’Università di Tromso: “Novel liposome formulations from algae membranes as carriersvectors of bioactive componds” (Anna N. Troyan, 2014), “New biocompatible nano- and micro-particles for antibacterial formulations” Christoffer J. Løkse, 2017)

GRADUATION: June, 17th, 1987 at the Chemistry Department of the University of Florence, with a dissertation having the title: “Study by ESR Spectroscopy of the Status of Water Adsorbed on Nafion”. The supervisor of the graduation thesis was prof. Giacomo Martini and the quotation reported 110 cum laude/110.
GRANTS: from September 1st 1987 to October 31st, 1989 Dr Ristori carried out a research work on the physico-chemical characterization of perfluorinated surfactants and polymers, in the frame of a grant from the italian istitution “Reale Accademia dei Lincei”.
PhD: from November 1st, 1989 to October 31st, 1992 at the Chemistry Department of the Univesity, of Florence (Physical Chemistry of Colloids and Interface laboratory). The PhD thesis title was: “Chemico-Physical Characterization of Perfluorinated Compounds” and the title was awarded on 23/07/1993.
STAGES: at the CENG (Centre D’Etudes Nucléaires de Grenoble), in the “Groupe de Physico-Chimie Moléculaire-Service d’Etudes des Architectures Moléculaires” directed by prof. Michel Pineri” for the following periods 1-9-1990/30-6-1991 and 1-11-1992/30-10-1993
(European Grant with the title "Structural Study of perfluorinated ionic compounds in solution". The scientific supervisor of this grant at the CENG was Dr Gérard Gebel). These stages had the aim to provide dr. Ristori the basic knowledge on Small Angle Scattering (SAXS and SANS) and NMR techniques.
POST-DOCTORAL GRANTS:
From april, 1st, 1994 to march 31st, 1996 Dr Ristori has won a grant from the Italian “Ministero per l’ Università e la Ricerca Scientifica” devoted to the post-doctoral formation of researchers. The title of her research subject was “Study by Scattering and Magnetic Resonance Techniques of Ordered and Disordered Systems”
POST-DOCTORAL STAGES:
1-12-1994/15-3-1995 and 1-4-1996/30-7-1996 at the Montpellier University II in the “Groupe de Dynamique des Phases Condensées directed by prof. Michel Galtier to perfom SAXS and Light Scattering experiments on lyotropic lamellar systems and vesicles made up by mixed fluorinated and hydrogenated surfactants. This research has been carried out with the collaboration of Dr Grégoire Porte and Dr Jacqueline Appell.
1-9-1997/31-8-1998 at the European Center for Magnetic Resonance (CERM) of the University of Florence, directed by prof. Ivano Bertini, to carry out a research project on “Magnetic orientaion of lyotropic phases as dissolving media for protein structure determination”, in cooperation with prof. Claudio Luchinat.

PRESENT ACADEMIC POSITION
In june 1999 Dr Ristori won an academic competition to get a permanent position as researcher at the Chemistry Department of the University of Florence (sector CHIM02, “Physical Chemistry”).
In 2013 Dr Ristori got the Academic Qualification as Associate Professor for the scientific sector 03/A2 (Models and Methods for Chemical Sciences) in the first round of a National Competion.
She is currently member of the Chemistry Department "Ugo Schiff" at the University of Florence.
