Learning Objectives
Knowledge and understanding
Basic knowledge, useful in nursing and obstetrics, on psychopathology, psychological assessment and communication in the helping relationship.
Applying knowledge and understanding
The course will provide students with the skills necessary to assess the possible presence of psychopathology, communicate with the patient and family members, talk to professionals of psychological area
Making judgements
Emphasis will be placed on the ability of independent study of psychological issues related to the profession of nurse and obstetrician through research and critical reading of scientific articles.
Communication skills
The course will provide students with the knowledge needed to identify patients who may need psychological support in order to establish an empathic relationship with them and their families, and to interpret and present the results of a research on issues of clinical psychology on the specific area professional interest.
Learning skills
The course must make the students able to integrate the newly acquired knowledge with those already in their possession and with those obtained by other courses, with the aim of creating useful links and connections.
General aims
The fundamental knowledge on clinical psychology, in order to communicate effectively with patients, their families and with other professionals, and identify patients who could benefit from psychological support.

Applying knowledge and understanding
During the lessons, exercises and examples will be conducted on real or simulated clinical cases in order to illustrate the way in which the acquired theoretical knowledge can be put into practice.
Making judgements
Discussion of articles that are part of the examination and/or presentation of an international research chosen by the student according to his/her interests.
Communication skills
During the lessons will be used a language that can allow students to learn the important technical terms of the discipline, and that it can provide useful examples of communication methods to be used in a diversified manner with colleagues and patients.

Frequency is not compulsory.
Students that will have a frequency of 80% of the course and that will present (individually or in groups) during the lessons detailed work based on international scientific literature and signed by the teacher, may be exempt from this final.
The work will have to be approved by the professor in its final form by the middle of the course, and will be presented during the remaining part of the course with a schedule decided by the teacher. Presentations will not be accepted for groups larger than 4 people and not having met the deadlines established at the beginning of the course. Each student in the group but must present individuallly and his contribution to the work must be recognizable.

During the course, exercises will be provided on real and simulated clinical cases, so that students will have the opportunities of verify their progressive learning.
Making judgements
During the written examination, critical judgements will be requested about the concept exposed in the text and in the didactic material provided during the course or presentation of an international research chosen by the student according to his/her interests.
Communication skills
During the written examination or oral presentation,, the technical correctness of used language and also the conceptual clearness in the description of concept and theories will be evaluated.
Learning skills
At the time of written examination or oral presentation, the ability to develop link and connections between concepts and theories will be evaluated; this ability will be evaluated also in relation to previous courses
