General aspects of anesthesiology and major anesthetic techniques with reference to the drugs used. It is considered the patient's path in preparation for a surgical operation. They describe the principals and equipment used in the execution of anesthesia, with particular attention to the control of the airways. They consider the fundamental principles of postoperative pain therapy.

Learning Objectives
After completing the course the student will have acquired knowledge relating to the preparation of a candidate patient to surgery. Will assist the anesthesiologist during the intra and postoperative period. Will manage the postoperative period as regards the control of vital signs and the assessment and the need to treat pain. Preoperative evaluation content. General and regional anesthesia: main techniques, medications, complications and materials in use. Treatment of postoperative pain.

It can support both oral exams that quiz.
The quiz tests, in case of unfavorable outcome, can not be sustained more than 3 times, after which they will only oral examinations permitted.
Checks "in itinere" may be agreed with the teachers
The final grade will be determined from the average reported in the verification of the various modules calculated taking into account the credits of the various teachings

The anesthetic risk assessment: preoperative evaluation, ASA classification, preoperative tests. Preoperative fasting and premedication. The components of general anesthesia. General anesthesia phases: induction, deepening, maintenance, patient awakening and recovery. Inhaled and intravenous anesthetics: main drugs used. Neuromuscular blocking drugs. Tracheal intubation: material preparation. Perioperative monitoring (notes). Instruments and anesthesia devices. Major complications of general anesthesia. Locoregional anesthesia: main techniques, medications, contraindications and complications. The patient positioning during execution of subarachnoid and epidural anesthesia. Postoperative pain: physiopathology, evaluation systems and pain relief methods.
