Analysis of the main chronic diseases in the elderly, with particular accent on the peculiarities of the single disease in the elderly, the specificity of diagnosis and treatment.
The aim of this course is to guide the student to the understanding of the peculiarity of pathological processes in the elderly and to the acquisition of the skills necessary for the cure of the elderly, either hospitalized or at home, and to the continuity of care. The student will acquire the skills necessary to properly answer the health needs of the elderly. This course will address the main geriatric syndromes in light of a multidisciplinary and multidimensional approach. The main aspect of the biology of aging, the demographics and the concept of longevity and disability will be addressed.

Cardiovascular disease in the elderly: ischemic heart disease; heart failure, atrial fibrillation, arterial hypertension. Principles of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment.
Cerebrovascular disease (acute and long-term complications): ictus, dementia, delirium, depression and Parkinson’s disease in the elderly. Principles of pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment.
