The course consists of theoretical lectures (40 h) and practical individual exercitations (48h). The objective is to provide students with knowledge on the most useful chemical and instrumental methods for the identification and control of purity of substance of pharmaceutical interest according to FUI and EP.
Students will also learn methods for a systematic analysis of drugs.

Preliminary tests: organoleptic examination, behavior to the heating, organic elemental analysis (Lassaigne test), metal analysis, physical properties determination, dissolution tests.
Salts analysis (organic and metallorganic compounds).
Chemical Analysis for the characterization of olefin and phenyl groups, hydroxyl function (alcohol, phenol), carbonyl function (aldehyde, ketone), carboxyl function (carboxyl acid and functional derivatives), aminic function (primary, secondary, tertiary, aliphatic and aromatic amines), sulfonamides, nitroderivatives.
